week13 reflection

This week was our last week for demonstrate teaching. This time, I was the student and I had fun. I tried to participate on the class very much becuase I know the feeling if nobody participate on my class. The first class was about research. Actually I don't have good perception on this subjectbecause I got low grade on my Engles. But, Teacher Mel, explained very well so I could easiy understand what is research and how we work for it. I liked the the other lessons, too. I learned aboutpoem which is about suffering. Through the poem I could find out the different meaning ofsuffering. I had great time.

week12 reflection

This week was very special becuase I had my demonstrate teaching. Angela and I prepared a lotand to be honest with you, we worried so much. As group 3, we wanted to teach a lot in 25 minutesand for that we prepared a lot of activity. The sad thing is that we couldn't prepare well asmuch as we prepared. We practiced so hardly but both of us so nervious on the stage, so we feltsense of frustration. However, we weren't that bad. We probably put more lesson and be carefulto arrage the order of lesson. But i guess, the student's enjoyed our lesosn and i was happythat at least they learned something from us. Through this demo teaching, I learned many things.I should prepare much more than I do and I never should nervious when I teach. If I'm nerviouswhen I teach, I can't show 100 percent what I prepared and students can feel that I'm nerviousso they easily lose their focusness. This task was very helpful. Thank you

week11 reflection

From this week, the demonstrate teaching was started. For this time, I was the evaluator. The first group was Lisa and Gen's group. I liked their demo teaching because they used Avatarwhich get student's attention very well and not only that but also, the class was really integrationof subjects. It seems like they take just art but they also did activity, debate which is part of speaking so that students could have learned with good topic. Also i liked their theme. The theme was to protect his world. The topic theme was the serious problem for the modern peopleand since we are teaching future people, the topic should be taught to students. The secondgroup taught PE. They brought basket balls to show how we practice it and they explained very well.They used both lecture and practice which I could variety of methods. The last group was very inpressive.First, they tried teach a lot and they really did. Even though we got only 25 minutes, they taught a lot of math. Second,they prepared colorful materials for the lesson. I guess if theyweren't shy, they would present perfect demo teaching.

week10 reflection

In this week, we didn't have class. Instead of having class, we got to make lesson plan forour 25 minutes demonstrate teaching. To make lesson plan for 25 minutes wasn't easy because25 minutes is so ambiguous. It is too short to teach formal lesson with activities or it isto long to learn simple topic. Angela (my partner) and I really tried to hard to make lesson plan which we can teach effectively and a lot in 25 minutes. I hope we could teach very wellas our lesson plan.

week9 reflection

On the first meeting of this week, we gotta make our rubric for demonstrate teaching.At firts, I thought making rubric is a quite easy work, but it was wrong. It seem simpleand looks easy to make but there are a lot that we need to consider like vision mission andthe other stuff. First work that Angela (my partner) and i made was totally wrong becausethe rubric was focussed on the lecture not our demonstrate teaching. I made rubric for howmy lesson organized. So Angela and I should make new rubric. It was tiring but we tried hard to create right and better rubric than others. To do this, we gotta search a lotand though this, I could see many other examples of rubric and got close to discriminatewhich rubric is nice and bad. On the second meeting of this week, we checked our schedule for demonstrate teaching.Fortunately, I wasn't the first day presentator. For the whole class, we got to evaluate the others'rubric and if there is something to fix, we need to comments on their rubric. The others didsame thing to our rubric. This was good activity because through checking others' rubric, weknew what we should fix for our rubric. The activity is really cool and i learned a lot from this.

week8 reflection

For a long time, I didn't have PTEACH2 class and finally i had pteach2 class this week. That was good to see sir, Jasper. :) For this week, I and my classmates had seminar on teaching physical education with speaker, Heinz Elorde. He is teaching physical education in De Lasalle Jobel. The first perception that I had when I see Sir, Heinz was innocent and he looks like to have clean mind. I think my first perception right pointed out. He loves childeren and he knows how to handle the children. Not only children he teaches High school students. Through his seminar, I could know Physical education can also use technology in learning. When we thinkg of PE, it's the subject which we practice and move. It makes us think that in PE, we don't usually lecture and doesn't use teaching strategies. However, it's not correct. In teaching Physical Education, there are a lot of teaching stategies and the most good strategies for 21st century learners is film viewing. When Sir, Heinz discussed the seminar, he also used power point presentation and film viewing. Before we practice PE, it's good to have film viewing so that students are motivated and they get inerest on that sport. It was really good time to have that seminar and i felt sad since he is the last speaker. If there is a chance, I would like to have more spearkers.

week 6 reflection

This Friday, I had seminar which is under by Mr. Roy Aldrin Villegas. To be honest with you, before I attend the seminar, I was agonizing over to take the seminar or not, because the topic was science which is not really related to my major. However, my perception has totally changed after taking the seminar. Even though the seminar was all about science, there are lectures that can be used in my teaching and major. I learned many things especially when he discussed the responsibility. He said if the students fail, it means the teacher is also failed. I totally agree with this. If the teacher has developed curriculum and lesson planning, automatically she will give better education and it means, students are educated well. Other side, if the teacher has poor lesson planning and teaching strategies, learners can’t learn even though they have desire to learn. I will try to be better teacher who has good responsibility and make students succeed.

week 6 reflection

On week 6, we had online class. The task was same activity that we did for week 5. It was pair work and my partner is Angela. We should chose a theme and integrate 3 subjects with one theme. Through this activity, I could know how integratin of subjects is important. When I teach something in the future, I need to prepare my lesson with cosideration of other subject's topic. For example, when I teach English to 2 year high school students and my topic is world history. Even though it's English class, World history should be handed in 3rd year highschool, therefore I shouldn's take the topic for my class. And when students learn something which can adopted in the other areas, they can learn more. I want to provide lifelong education to my students and I'm sure integration of subjects is major effection on lifelong education.

week5 reflection

In this week, the lesson was focused on Mathematics. Even though it’s not my major, it was related to my major and there are some teaching methods can be used in teaching English. The best way for students to learn mathematics is to experience problems that challenge mathematics, and the thought, habits of mind and actions associated with trying to solve them. I think as math, English should be also experience grammar problems and need to habit to speak English to improve. As math teaching should be both lecturing and problem solving, English also need to be like that. When I learn basic English, especially in grammar, my teacher lectured a lot, but at the same time, she gave me a lot of problems in grammar. Through solving those problems, I could feel and know the differences between grammar structure and I think through that process, I learned English faster compare to my friends who only studied lecturing. I liked the activity that we did for the first class, which were to calculate the percentage of coffee and the color balls thing. It was easy enough to handle, but I didn’t like the activity that we did for the second meeting for this week. It was really hard. At the same time, I was disappointed to myself because, actually I could solve that problem when I was in high school. Since I entered university, I’ve never studied math except for STATLIT and MATAPRE. I forgot all the methods and they ways to solve problems. It was kind a shock for me. By the way, I had fun to solve math problems because it's been a long time to solve math.

week4 reflection

In this week, the lesson was focused on the English which is my major. Because of the topic which is English, I could pay more attention in class. Through this lesson, I could know the importance of the integration of 5 macro skills: reading, writing, speaking, listening and viewing. Not only that but also, the importance of each skills. For the integration of macro skills, group work is the good activity to do. In group work, we can do role play. Role play is the good activity to integrate reading, writing, speaking, listening and viewing. Students need to read the story first (reading), and they need to write their own script (writing). When they present the play (it’s viewing already), they need to speak and the students who are not presenting will listen. When I become an educator, I will do a lot of group activity such as this which can integrate all the skills so that students learn more efficiently. Also for the activity, we read a simple story: a little incident. After reading this story, we made our own questions which are for pre-reading, while-reading and post reading. To create those questions, I could read more specifically and read many times. Honestly, while reading question and literal question are confuse but my pair and I could handle that. It was fun activity because I felt like I was a teacher who prepares some questions for my students.

week3 reflection

In this week, I’ve learned about lesson plan again but specifically. For education course, lesson planning is one of the important part and it guides educators how to go and how to procedure the class. As we discuss in the class, “failing to plan is planning to fail”. I really agree with this. To make a lesson plan, it’s not that easy but it is the thing we must settle. Sir. Jasper discussed the semi-detailed lesson plan and I learned it already. However, for the learning activities, I didn’t know I should contain expected student’s behavior answer for before, middle and end of the class. I knew I should prepare questions for the students, but I didn’t know if we need to guess what the students will answer. For the activity, I exchanged the lesson plan with Math major classmate and her lesson plan was quite different with mine. Usually I contain title, subject, faculty, objectives, materials, time allocation, teacher’s task, student’s task and lastly reference. However, math major lesson plan was different. The lesson plan that I got contains title, subject, faculty, objectives, materials, but not time allocation. It contained teacher’s and student’s task but the type was different from mine. Mine is like a direction but hers was dialogue type. She expected the answers of students and procedure the lesson with that expectation. I think this is very nice part that I missed. However I think, she should contain the teacher’s action just in case if the students answer differently with her expectation. For example if the teacher ask, the answer is yes. What if the student answers no? It should contain the different preparation just in case. On the next time, I had great seminar with Rom Metila. From her, I could know the specific things that is needed when I make a lesson plan. I learned that I need to write a lesson script for introduction to activities, directions for task, statements and so on. Also lesson plain should be reflected to variety and it should be sequence. Not only that but also seatwork should be first before quiz. I should check my student’s level through seatwork and if my students reached the level, then I can give quiz. However, the students don’t reach the level, I need to discuss the topic again. This was important to learn as a future educator.

week2 reflection

In this week, I’ve learned how frameworks for teaching the subject matter areas (of English, Math, Science, Social Studies) are constructed. Actually before I did the first activity for this week, I didn’t know we have those programs as CBI, PTCLA, CALLA and so on and so far in education in English. Not only that but also, I’ve learned that the components of learning includes viewing in 21st century. I only thought reading, speaking, writing and listening are the components of learning, but it wasn’t. Since I’m 21st century learner, and also as a future educator, I need to apply viewing in my study so that I could learn efficiently and I can teach well in the future. Also I could know that why the professors prepared those power point presentations. They are using 21st century methods.
When I did the activity one, our group had hard time to create our own group diagram. Before we made it, we should exactly know what the programs are. Honestly, the sample that sir showed us is little bit complicated and hard to understand but using the diagram we created, I could understand better and while making the diagram, it was easy to understand.

PTEACH2 Reflection (second)

On September, 20, 2010, we had third meeting on PTEACH2. In this class, we had discussed about teaching in an age of change. Since we are 21st century learners and also will become a 21st century educator, we should get a lot of information about this subject. We’ve learn how technology is applied in my education and the effectives from using technology. Technology helps in many ways in education. Since we use technology, our education becomes widely. What I mean is through internet, we get variety of information and not only but also we the sources from other countries’. For example, when I was 4th grade, my English teacher gave me an activity that write an email to foreigner and get the reply. Of course I should write it in English. Fortunately, I got reply from her, and it gave me another joy that I haven’t experienced before because it’s not easy to have conversation with foreigner. If I didn’t have internet that time, how was it possible to contact with foreigner? Technology makes it possible. Not only this but also technology makes a lot of things possible for education. After discussion, we did one simple group activity. Through this activity, I was surprised because I evaluated the system that I’ve learned when I was in high school. The objectives were we learn history, drama, poem and then essay. However, I learned differently when I was in high school. I learned poem first before drama. I haven’t doubt the system that my high school teacher taught me but through this activity, I found the mistake she had and I felt good because I already reached the level that I could evaluate. In the other day, we had simple discussion in concept process model and we had another activity. This activity was quite difficult. We evaluated the conceptual framework in English and it was hard to understand. Actually, before I did the activity, I wasn’t familiar with on cognitive academic language proficiency (CALP), on content–based instruction (CBI, problem-based, task-based, and competency-based learning (PTCBL), cognitive academic language learning approach (CALLA) and so on and so far. Actually, since my dream is becoming English teacher, I should have known about those before I had that activity. Because of this, I tried hard to understand and get close with those methods. Thank you for giving me this new information that I really need to know.

PTEACH2 Reflection (first)

On September, 15, 2010, we had our second meeting on PTEACH2. In the first meeting, we discussed about the syllabus and Sir, Jasper, our professor for this subject explained how his lesson plan would be proceed. In the second day, we created the list that what subjects we have learned in PTEACH1. I was so surprised because I hardly remembered the discussion that I’ve learned in PTEACH1. Fortunately, Sir, Jasper simply reviewed the subjects, so I could get familiar with those topics before I learn new lessons. In this class, we had discussed about effective teaching, teacher’s role and classification of teaching methods. I was happy because since my dream is to become an educator, these topics are very useful and the things that I must know and I learn it now. I learned the things that teachers must mastered and provide for the students besides knowledge like teacher should be role model, resource developer, assessor and so on and so far. I’m also excited because we are going to learn the upgrade lesson than PTEACH1. I hope and I’m sure this PTEACH2 will help and show my way to go educator’s way.

The marks of an educated man

To be honest, this context was quite hard to understand, but since I want to be a professorin the future, I was trying to feel this context. This context contains story of educatorand the importance of educator. The things that i thought of this sotry is that The standard of care is that of a reasonably prudent parent. The degree of care depends on such factors as the age of the students. There must be an effective system of supervision in operation in the school. The duty of care applies while the students are on the school premises during school opening hours. It may also apply if the students are present outside of official school hoursTeacher is the one who doesn't transfer their knowlege to the students but also who cares their students. I think this lecture gave me the time to think more about being a educator deeply.

reflection for I will persist until I succeed

This story is very impressive because it gave me a lot of teachings that are really important to know in our lives. 3months ago, I’ve attended the church seminar which made me spiritually awakened that I should not live like this. I know what should I do to become a success person, but it’s hard to practice. The big reason for this is laziness. Through the seminar, I realized that I should fix my bad habit which is lack my success and study hard. The seminar made a lot of students decide to study hard in God. However, unfortunately, it doesn’t last long. 3months after that seminar, my life became same as before the seminar. Through this story, I could make my mind to study hard again and remind the seminar. There are some quotations that I liked. If I persist, if I continue to try, if I continue to charge forward, I will succeed. Without doing things or trying, we can’t reach succeed. I know what to do but it’s too hard to do what I’ve planned. As this quotation, I should continue to try to charge forward. I am not a sheep waiting to be prodded by my shepherd. I am a lion and I refuse to talk, to walk, to sleep with the sheep. I will hear not those who weep and complain, for their disease is contagious.Let them join the sheep. The slaughterhouse of failure is not my destiny. Through this quotation, I’ve thought that I have to live different life with other people to success. If I live same as other people, I can’t be better than them. I should try more than others so that I can be succeed. Also I like this quotation. Failure I may still encounter at the thousandth step, yet success hides behind the next bend in the road. It tells that even there is hard time and if we’ve failed during doing things, it doesn’t mean that we are really failed. It’s also a step to be success. There is a great quotation in Korea. Fail is the mother of success. Not only this but also I realized that impossible is nothing and positive thinking brings success through this quotation. I will never consider defeat and I will remove from my vocabulary such words and phrases as quit, cannot, unable, impossible, out of the question, improbable, failure, unworkable, hopeless, and retreat; for they are the words of fools.

reflection for long walk to forever

I like this story because it's about love which I use to focus on. Newt and Catharine were the friends but they become a couple when they checked their mind. Honestly the think that is come up after I read this story was I don't like the two characters, Newt and Catharine. The thing that I don't like Newt is even though he already knew that Catherine is going to get marride, he propsed her which is not right. If I were Newt, I would just let her go, because although I love Catharine, hse already decided to get married with other guy. I t means she cfan live happily with another mand and the other thing that I don't lkike NEwt was he cvould proposed to here before he went to the army. He didint' give any clue that he loved Catharine. If he is the real man he shoyuld represent his mind.l Next, the thinkg I don't liek Catharine wasw that she is irresolution.l She wasn't sure what she was going to do. That's the why Newt didn't give up ehr and pushed her to love him. Second, what about Herny? SHe didn't thhink of Henry. She alroeady ahd a date of wedding with Henry. Henry is a person who has feeling, too. He might love Catharine as much as Newt. How much would be the pain that Henry will get? These thinks are to made me dislike about these two characters. However, this story makes me think of my best friend who is a boy. he used to be my best friend since I wans 7 grades. Of coursee we are just friends, but I has imagined that if we are together. He suddenly showed up and I miss him after I read this story.

Since I was young, I use to dream to become a teacher and I promised myself that I would be

a fair teacher to every students. The reason why I promised this is I have an experience that one of my teachers was really unfair to me and I hated. Since that time, I pledged myself that eventhough the student is mean to me, I wouldn't treat him with same way. I would be a teacher who first gives him/her love. However, the sad thing is taht I changed my mind when time goes by. I grew and I'm a human who can't have same feeling for every people. I doubted myself that if I could be a fair teacher. Fortunately, THREE LETTERS FROM TEDDY gave me a time to pledge myself to be a fair teacher again. Not only that but also I learned that I should not appraise people with their appearance. The important thing is the person's personality and the mind. I'm really gald to read this story. THANK YOU!
